About

Moriah Bailey (fka sun riah) is a songwriter who creates intimate and vulnerable sound worlds using primarily harp, voice, and effects pedals. Various Small Flames describes her songs as, “spare and vulnerable yet shot through with a certain steeliness,” and Paste Magazine praised Bailey’s music for its “masterful minimalism.”

In recent years, Moriah Bailey’s project has transformed from a solo project into a full band — Moriah Bailey in Acoustic Contact. The band includes Sarah Reid on violin, Nicholas Allen on double bass, and Beth on percussion. Their music blends folk, indie experimental, and post-rock influences to breathe a different kind of life into Bailey’s songwriting. At times delicate and at times explosive, their approach demonstrates careful attention to push and pull, restraint and release.

“Songs spare and vulnerable yet shot through with a certain steeliness. A sense of perseverance in the face of tension and loss that might not be love as we are usually shown it, but is love all the same.”

– John Doyle (Various Small Flames)

“It’s the kind of music that picks up the pieces from broken circumstances, but it holds and contemplates them rather than gluing them back together.”

— Evan Jarvicks (Make Oklahoma Weirder)

“Moriah Bailey’s ability to capture the complexities of saying goodbye to a loved one is unparalleled.”

– Ben Garland (Folk Radio)
